This book has pictures that tells another story, it takes place in New Jersey, October 1927. Ben Wilson lives with his aunt and uncle after his mom died and his dad was somewhere in the world. When the lightning hit the telephone wire lightning went through the wire and hit ben’s ear. He fell to the floor. Ben woke up in the hospital, he couldn’t hear a thing. Counting by 7’s
By Holly Goldberg Sloan Kate says: "[Willow] is a brainiac and she's also a horticulturist; she loves to grow things and has a real talent for growing things and that's a wonderful metaphor for what happens in this book. ... "You're so taken with Willow's voice that you want to keep going. And then it's a very wise book, and it's wise in a sneaky kind of way. You don't realize how much you're learning about how to see other people and how to be in the world. |

Dork Diaries: Tales from a NOT- SO- Popular Party Girl
By Rachel Renee Russell There was a girl named Nikki and she was in middle school. She had two friends named Chloe and Zoey. She had a crush on a boy named Brandon but there was a problem. A mean girl was in the way of everything, her name was Mackenzie Hollister. It was the month of Halloween and there was going to be a party in the gym but the janitor had to put down new floorboards. They chose Mackenzie, a chairperson, to take care of the party and to see if it is going well. The chairperson was Mackenzie. But Mackenzie cheated so Nikki got to be chairperson. So she chose to take the party to the Westchester Zoo on the 31st at 7:30 and 11:30. Then Nikki got an invite to a little girl party at the zoo so nikki can paint their faces. Nikki had to Wear a really stinky rat costume to the party! Then nikki went to the middle school party where she wore her mom’s old really pretty Juilet costume. When Brandon came to the party he was wearing one of the three musketeers costume. He was cute. Then nikki had to go back and forth to wear three different outfits, it was really hard. Next nikki got caught by Mackenzie in front of the whole school! She was really embarrassed too. Then she just ran off. Chloe and Zoey where really mad at Nikki. When they found her she was on a bench that was really far away from school. Brandon came up to her with her big and fake rat head, he was just messing around with the rat head. Then nikki was laughing her butt off. Then they lived happily ever after. My favorite part is when Mackenzie takes her bag, and nikki was just was left with the rat costume. This what I think about this book. The book is like my life, and it is really addicting if you read this book. Review by Ellie C. |
The World According To Humphrey
By Betty G. Birney This is a book about a hamster that lives his life as a classroom pet. All the children love him, but there is one little catch. The teacher is out to get Humphrey. There is also a part when the principal tells Mrs. Brisbane that it would be a good idea if the kids could each take Humphrey home for the weekend. She agreed! In the book Humphrey the hamster is actually telling about his life in room 26. Also he tells about what happens when he goes to the childrens’ houses every weekend. My favorite part of the book is when Mrs. Brisbane takes Humphrey home with her over Thanksgiving and Humphrey got to meet Mr. Brisbane. Humphrey decided to get out of his cage and run around the house while Mr. Brisbane ran to try to catch him. For some reason Mr. Brisbane actually had fun doing it and so did Humphrey. Mr. Brisbane made a obstacle course for Humphrey. I recommend this book to anyone who likes stories about hamsters or any kind of animal books. Review by Katelynn M. |

Bad Kitty vs. Uncle Murray
BY: NICK BRUEL At first kitty was in some sort of kitty dream land where cans of cat food grow out of the ground and the rivers flow with gravy until a suitcase falls onto kitty because it was just a dream. then kitty’s owner left the house and put Uncle Murray in charge. Uncle Murray is kind of a weird guy because he keeps on saying “ Hi ya goofy cat “ to kitty, I think it is kind of funny but kitty thinks he is saying “ Get in my mouth so I can bite you and taste you and chew you with my big sharp teeth!”, I think that would be really scary. But then puppy comes along and kitty is super scared of puppy and kitty thinks puppy is going to kill her and every time Uncle Murray tries to pet kitty she just goes crazy. Anyway, kitty has a few friends like S.K, Pretty kitty and stinky kitty. I think you should totally read this book because it is really funny. Review by CJ B. |
Big Nate
By Lincoln Peirce Big Nate is about a boy that is not normal like other kids in his school. He does not fit in with others except for one group of boys. Life doesn't go his way, like when he wanted to sleep in but his dad ripped the covers off of him to wake him up, and he wanted to play basketball but he had to run 200 laps and then play dodgeball. He always finds himself in trouble, like when his teacher found him making a page of bad nicknames for his teacher, and when he was caught making a picture of his teacher almost getting eaten by a dragon! But he is always cool no matter what. My favorite part of the book is when he put his gym shorts on and they fall off so he shoves towels down his pants so his pants will stay up. If you like funny books I'd recommend this book for you. Review by Riley D. |
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules
by Jeff Kinney This book is about a kid named Greg Heffley and his brother Rodrick who acted like he was sick. His mom and dad went on a vacation and when they left Rodrick he got up and called all his friends and had a party. When Greg went to get more tables in the basement his brother locked him in it. He thought girls were coming but it was pretty hard to see when you can only look at their shoes. Greg had no choice but to sleep on the floor in the cold basement floor. After the party he went back up and the door was wide open and it was a mess. They had to clean up the living room so their parents wouldn’t know that Rodrick had a party. They found a note that said, “hi Rodrick” on the bathroom door so they replaced it with Rodrick’s closet door. If you like Diary of a Wimpy Kid books I would recommend this good book for you. Fablehaven
by Brandon Mull Kendra and Seth were going to their way to Grandpa Sorensons’ house where magical creatures thrived. On their way there Seth got bored with his handheld gaming console which meant it was a really long car ride to their grandparent’s house. Kendra thought it would be a boring place but what she didn’t know that a whole summer of excitement was ahead of her. There were a few rules that their Grandpa had like no going inside of the forest or the barn. Grandpa had a chicken in Kendra and Seths’ bedroom. There were so many wooden toys Seth wanted to play with all of them right then and there he left all the toys he played with on the floor. Kendra said “We just got here and you're already making a mess of the place.” Seth responded with “Grandpa said this is a play room”. My favorite part of the book was when Dale was shooting monsters. Its a must read book. Review by Arthur B. |

The Book Thief
Markus Zusak Historical Fiction Reviewed By: Sienna M. 8A The Book Thief is a historical fiction book, narrated by Death. It is set in Nazi Germany during world war I, and follows an orphan girl by the name of Liesel Meminger. Her mother is forced to giver her and her brother up, however on the train ride to their new families house, her brother dies. Liesel is then forced to live with Rosa and Hans Hubermann. After discovering that Hans was not what she had expected, but a kind and loving man who plays the accordion, she befriends him, and the boy next door with the lemon colored hair. Throughout this story, Leslie faces many hardships, and when a runaway Jewish man seeks refuge at the Hubermann house, she learns and hears things that flip her world upside down. After the worst seems over, somebody makes a mistake, in which the consequences will change Leslie's life forever. This is the best, most intriguing book that I have ever read. If i were to rate it, it would be 5 out of 5 stars. This book was so detailed and intricate, and yet it was easy to follow. Markus Zusak’s writing is like heroine. Once you get a taste you keep wanting more. The beautiful thoughts and words in this story are truly a work of art. I have never read such a thought provoking, magnificent book. I love historical fiction, but sometimes they can get a little boring. Most of them are filled with long passages about the historical event in which it takes place in, but this one intertwines the historical element, while making it as interesting as any action filled book. I highly recommend this book to anyone, whether you enjoy reading or not, you need to read it. It has something for everyone.I also love the way that the author didn't sugar coat things. Most books try to stick to the lighter side of things, and make everything seem like a fairytale. This book gives you a dose of reality, and makes sure that by the time you get to the last page, you know that life isnt perfect. That things don't always work out the way you intended them to. This book is full of beautiful words, but this passage inparticular makes me feel something that no other piece of literature ever has before. A quote by Death on the last page of the book. “I wanted to tell the book thief many things, about beauty and brutality. But what could I tell her about those things that she didn't already know? I wanted to explain that I am constantly overestimating and underestimating the human race-that rarely do I ever simply estimate it. I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant. None of those things, however, came out of my mouth. All I was able to do was turn to Liesel Meminger and tell her the only truth I know. I said it to the Book Thief, and I say it now to you, I am haunted by humans.” |
